Making Tile Mosaic Art with Kanika Marshall’s Music, Black Artist

Kanika Marshall has made a large collection of hand-sculptured, hand-painted tile mosaics from red clay and vividly-colored glazes. After making the tiles using a painterly technique, she breaks the tiles into pieces then reforms the pieces into interesting patterns. She adds glass, beads, and stones to complement the tile pieces. Grout is generally placed in between the grooves of clay to make the finished product. The wood underlayment is slathered with wood preservative for those people who want to display the tile sculpture in a covered portion of their garden.
