Filmed (most likely) in the summer of 1978, this Super 8mm film documents SCSU art department graduate, Steve Mears, throwing pots in a small studio on my parents property in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Originally used as a car garage and pluming workshop, the outbuilding was converted to a working ceramic studio by my father in the early seventies. Over the approximate ten years the Pot Shop was operational, perhaps a dozen artists worked in and sold artwork from this humble structure. Though the studio was most commonly referred to as the Pot Shop, it’s exterior was adorned with a sign reading “Art Mart” which was originally from a small gallery in downtown St. Cloud. Metal Coating and Patina Application on Ceramics
Ron Young describes the application of Sculpt Nouveau’s Traditonal Powder Blue Patina to the Copper “B” Metal Coating over a low fire clay body bisque. Plastic wrap is used to create random color patterns. Materials used: Copper B metal coating, Light Green Patina, Powder Blue Patinas, Metal Coatings, and Permalac from Sculpt Nouveau.
