Thanks dom! Cant wait for your next post. Best wishes from singapore
in a place like this bar no, never used flash. got another shoot with them this tuesday in a brighter bar, will bring flash but doubt ill use it. just use high iso and fast lenses ie f1.4
Hi dom this is a very great tip/ video. May i know though if you used any speedlight in your shots inside the club? I really liked the effect of the ambient light in the pub but i never get it in my shots. They are either too bright ( if with flash) or too dark ( if without) . Thanks dom!!!
also please stop trying to be a smart arse.
no, this was a pre paid job for a gin promoter, but the bar brambles was where it was held, i gave brambles some images as they were cool with me going round taking phtoos of them and theguests and gave me free drinks.
@dombower actually you said you gave them to the company for free and when they said they needed them quickly you said where do you live I will get them to you in 10 minutes! and you gave them the memory card.
Do they give their products away for free…I doubt it very much otherwise they would not be in business long
@dsportuk i said give some of them for free.
give them a couple, if they like them they can ask for them in big size and then you can charge.
i didnt say give them all of your images for free. and it was in an email. so not exactly big size
some good and bad advice…the worse advice you can ever give is that you should give all of your images out for free as the most important thing is that they get seen by someone!!
Great vid and great tips. Thanks for sharing!
“digital dandelion”
excellent! lol
hey dom!! your flickr account doesn’t apear when i search you
Thanks for the advise Dom! I have a few bar jobs coming up because of your advises!
if i do it is a small water mark at the bottom right. or the images i give them are usually small res, if they use them on their website i ask they credit me, but the idea is more to get them to go ,”ooh nice photos can you do a protrait for us? “
you mentioned giving the images you took to the bar for free. Do you put any water mark or indication that it is your work? is it a good idea to put a watermark in something that you are giving for free?
Another excellent vid Dom!! Great work!! I was wondering if you could do a detalied tutorial on Vertical Panoramas, from camera setup to editing sofware. I’v been looking all over for a good tutorial on this topic but can not find one. Hope you’ll consider it. Thanks!
You’re awesome… Keep up the good work!
I’m a big fan of yours
i got you in my favorites bar and always cheking your website for more vids and tutorials
thanks to you i have learn a lot of things and ideas
Thanks Dom!!!
i really liked the shots of the bottle and the light pens. fantastic job cant wait for the next video!!
also, can you show us those light pens? and maybe some tutorials of things to do with them for a future video?
I’ve done long shutter speed pics with a lamp w/ an exposed light bulb, but it was quite ackward.
Also, can you damage the sensor by have too much bright light? Like if you let the shutter open @ the sun or something?
How do you do the shots where you have the background motion-blurry, and the hand in focus and not motion-y at all?
I’ve tried it before… and I just can’t do it. How the heck can you hold your hand so still?
A video on this subject would be very beneficial to a lot of people, most certainly myself. Your time and effort is appreciated by myself and many others I’m sure. Wish you all the best!
as long as you are not giving away your prized possesions, giving away some shots you ahve on the side is never a bad thing. it gets you out there and if someone likes one of your images they may commission you to do a portrait or shoot for them. thats pretty much how i have got all my jobs so far. (ill make a quick video about the benefits of giving stuff away for free)
and it sure is for me. got lots of jobs out of my free stuff.
good work and if people like your shots they will tell others and pass on the word.
ah yes good question! well this event was an invite only and on the invite it stated that they had to agree to photos being taken. however their is no rule regarding having perision to take someones photo (otherwise paparazzi would be out of a job) and also i am not controling the images i am handding them over to the marketing company so if they use them they have to gain any permission needed. (good point though)
