Effect of shutter speed on (Studio) Flash Photography tips

www.dombower.com This is a quick video demonstrating the effect of shutter speed (up to 1 of a second) on Flash photography (in side (studio or house) www.dombower.com In a darkened studio, shutter speed doesnt come into play with flash pictures. When you take the flash out of the studio, however, adjusting the shutter speed is often necessary to match the flash exposure to the background. www.planetanimals.com

Dom you rock buddy!!!
Excellent simple explanation and clear demo…. Great work
and hide my sexy body!!!! never!!!!!!!!
A very simple but effective demo video. Love how you show the results as you go through. Maybe on the next one you tidy up and put some clothes on? Only kidding
Cheers for taking the time to make.
did you not see the examples proving what is said?
Not sure I believe what’s being said on here.
I’ve just been watching another Photographer on YouTube. I think this stuff has a lot to do with Shutter Curtains and how they work.
I am a underwater photographer and use flash always. The shutter speed has a great effect underwater. if you are shooting a foreground with water suface in background you will not capture the ripples on the surface of the water with a slow shutter speed. Same with shooting into the sun underwater you will not capture the rays of the sun unless shutter speed is high enough. They simple move to fast and a higher shutter speed is needed to capture them while flash lights the foreground.
The Aperture governs the Flash…
Great Job
that info is not important in this video, check the other videos for more information on ttl stuff
Hi Dom,
Can i ask what is the power of your flashgun and also the zoom. Are you setting it to TTL for umbrella bounce and direct?
what do you think, should i get fast prime lens or nissin Di622 for canon 400D? what is the advantages?
built in flash will only sync up to a speed of 1/200, and no you cant get a snap shot like mine with the built in flash you really need external flash
are you serious with this question?
to lower the ambient light how about… turning off the lights in the room, closing the door and pulling curtains over your windows.
Someone asked how to reduce the ambient light . Just lower your iso to about 100 and that should all but eliminate it.
nice vid dom like always btw i have a question how do i lower the ambient light on my pictures
?
u’re using fujifilm dslr? what happens when u use the built in flash, still no effect on the shutter speed? can i get nice snapshot picture like urs using my built in flash? for the moment i cant afford to buy external flash. and the camera flash was to awkward.
btw, im using old canon 400d
the lens i got was a 80-200 ed nikon, its brilliant for sports like horse racing and rugby, its also the same on my 24-70 f2.8 sigma lens that ring only works on the lowest setting,
i try to just keep my porn streaming on to my computer not saved any more….!
thats cause you are using a digital camera along with an old school lens. i am sure there is some technical reason why but i dont really care… as i dont need to change it.
is that why my pc is slow, its 4g of ram 500gb harddrive, but i have tons and tons of interent porn, lol your great in your video’s makes things abit easier mate thanks,my depth of field ring at the base of my camera only works at f22,any ideas why?
cheers
oh dd-d-d-d dear, read the info, and the title!!! this video is only relavent for studio photography. where ambient light is already very low.
wow, you’re so wrong. The shutter controls the amount of ambient light let into the camera. Try that demo outside or in a large room. You were in a small room with a wall right behind you. The flash was strong enough to light the whole room. Try it in a bigger space and you’ll get completely different results.
letting more light in or less light in but it is not important for flash. more just for outdoor photography
So what does shutter speed do like what is it used for?
When doing indoor flash photography the only light that really is altering the picture is the flash. Ambient light takes much longer time to effect the image. The apeture alters how much light enters the camera per unit of time, shutter is the units of time.
Old comment, but I sort of laughed when I read that.
